Avoiding screw overlength using dorsal horizon view in palmar plate osteosynthesis of distal radius fractures: a prospective randomized trial.
Arch Orthop Trauma Surg . 2024 Jan;144(1):197-204.Forty patients with distal radius fractures were randomized to receive standard intraoperative fluoroscopic imaging (n=18) or additional dorsal horizon view imaging (n=22). The outcomes of interest were the incidence of dorsal screw penetration, the number of intraoperative screw changes, and exact postoperative CT-guided measurement of screw length. Outcomes were assessed postoperatively using CT scans. Overall, the results of the study revealed that the addition of the dorsal horizon view significantly reduced the number of dorsal screw penetrations, suggesting its routine use in palmar plate osteosynthesis of distal radius fractures.
