Manual therapy, exercise, and traction for patients with cervical radiculopathy: a randomized clinical trial

Phys Ther. 2009 Jul;89(7):632-42. Epub 2009 May 21.

81 patients with cervical radiculopathy (CR) were randomized to receive treatment with either cervical traction, manual therapy and exercise, or a sham version of cervical traction combined with regular manual therapy and exercise. The trial assessed the efficacy of cervical traction treatment for patients suffering from CR, which is currently a common practice. The results from this study demonstrated that cervical traction, in addition to manual therapy and exercise, did not provide superior improvements in pain and disability scores after 4 weeks of treatment.
