Application of the distraction support in intramedullary nailing treatment for tibial shaft fracture.

Ninety two adult patients with closed tibial shaft fractures were randomized to receive intramedullary nailing with distraction support (DS) (n=46) or without DS (n=46). The primary outcome of interest was operative time. Secondary outcomes included blood loss, hospital stay, infection, delayed union, and malalignment. Outcomes were assessed up to 12 months postoperatively. Overall, the results of the study revealed that the DS group had significantly shorter operative time and less blood loss, with no significant differences in complications. These findings suggest that distraction support improves surgical efficiency without increasing complications.
