The distance between new and previous incisions does not affect skin necrosis in total knee arthroplasty: a parallel-randomized controlled clinical trial
BMC Surg. 2022 Sep 26;22(1):350.Fifty patients with a previous longitudinal knee scar who were scheduled for a total knee arthroplasty were randomized to have the new incision placed anywhere within 8cm of the previous incision (n=25) or at least 8cm away (n=25). The primary outcome of interest was the incidence of necrosis and scar-related complications. Secondary outcomes of interest included the Knee Society Score (KSS), measured at 6 months post-surgery. The results demonstrated no significant difference between the two groups in both outcomes.
