Distal chevron osteotomy with soft tissue release effective in severe hallux valgus .
Comparison of outcomes between proximal and distal chevron osteotomy, both with supplementary lateral soft-tissue release, for severe hallux valgus deformity: A prospective randomised controlled trial
Bone Joint J. 2013 Apr 1;95-B(4):510-6. doi: 10.1302/0301-620X.95B4.30464In order to compare the clinical and radiological results of proximal chevron osteotomy to distal chevron osteotomy in the treatment of severe hallux valgus deformity, 110 women were randomized to either one of these procedures, in conjunction to distal-tissue release. With a mean follow up of 38-39 months, both procedures presented similar improvements in hallux valgus angle, intermetatarsal angle, distal metatarsal articular angle, tibial sesamoid position, American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) hallux metatarsophalangeal-interphalangeal score, patient satisfaction, and number of complications.
