Randomized Trial of Dilute Povidone-Iodine Soak and Scrub for Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Surgery.
Foot Ankle Int. 2021 Jul 20; 10711007211025263.Two hundred and fifty seven patients undergoing foot and ankle surgery were randomized to receive a dilute povidone-iodine soak and scrub (n=128) followed by a standard 2-step antiseptic skin preparation or the standard 2-step antiseptic skin preparation alone (n=129). The primary outcome of interest was the rate of positive bacterial culture rates from the hallux nailfold. There was no difference in the rates of positive bacterial cultures from the hallux nailfold between the two groups. There was no difference in wound complications between the two groups postoperatively.
