Effect of Different Exercise Types on the Cross-Sectional Area and Lumbar Lordosis Angle in Patients with Flat Back Syndrome
Int J Environ Res Public Health. 2021 Oct 17;18(20):10923.Thirty-six females with flat back syndrome were randomized to receive a 12-week corrective exercise program (n=12), resistance exercise program (n=12) or standard physical therapy (n=12). Outcomes of interest included the cross-sectional area of the lumbar muscles, lumbar lordosis angle, lumbar function as measured by the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), and flexibility. Results revealed the corrective exercise program and resistance exercise program provided significantly greater improvement in all outcomes compared to physical therapy. Also, the corrective exercise program outperformed the resistance exercise program in the improvement in lumbar lordosis angle and ODI scores.
