Medicine (Baltimore). 2021 Oct 8;100(40): e27405.Ninety-seven patients reporting moderate pain from knee osteoarthritis were randomized to receive 8 weeks of daily dietary supplementation with a oral mixture of hyaluronic acid, glucosamine, and chondroitin (n=47) or an oral placebo (n=50). The primary outcome of interest was the change from baseline in Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcomes Scores (KOOS). Secondary outcomes of interest included the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), Short Form 36 (SF-36) quality of life questionnaire, and the Chinese version of Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (CPSQI). Outcomes were assessed after completion of the intervention period. No significant differences in all outcomes were observed between the two groups.
