Comparative Analysis of Early and Long-Term Outcomes of Patients with Degenerative Lumbar Spine Disease Using the DIAM Stabilizer and Standard Rehabilitation Program: A Preliminary Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial with 1-Year Follow-Up.

Eighty-six patients with degenerative lumbar spine disease (DLSD) were randomized to receive either the device for intervertebral assisted motion (DIAM) dynamic stabilizer (n=43) or conservative treatment with standard rehabilitation (n=43). The primary outcome of interest was functional disability measured by the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). Secondary outcomes included pain intensity assessed by the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), complications, and reoperation rates. Outcomes were assessed at baseline, immediately after treatment, and at 1-year follow-up. Overall, the study revealed no significant differences in early or long-term disability reduction between the two groups. These findings suggest that neurosurgical treatment with the DIAM stabilizer is not superior to conservative treatment in reducing disability and pain in patients with DLSD during the one-year follow-up.
