Preemptive low-dose dexamethasone reduces postoperative emesis and pain after TKA: a randomized controlled study

OE Journal. 2013;1(20):1 Clin Orthop Relat Res. 2013 Sep;471(9):3010-20269 patients, aged 18 and older, scheduled to undergo total knee arthroplasty for primary knee osteoarthritis were randomly assigned into one of two groups to investigate the effect of dexamethasone and ramosetron on postoperative outcomes. Patients intravenously received either both drugs or ramosetron alone. Results demonstrated that patients who received the combination of dexamethasone and ramosetron experienced a greater reduction in postoperative vomiting and pain, and had similar infectious risks as those who received ramosetron alone.
