Resistant metatarsus adductus: prospective randomized trial of casting versus orthosis

27 children below the age of 9 months and with metatarsal adductus were randomized to treatment with either serial casting or an orthosis. Intervention was discontinued once footprints and clinical examination indicated the deformity had resolved. Both groups demonstrated significant correction in calcaneal-fifth metatarsal angle, talo-first metatarsal angle, and a modified footprint bisector assessment. After treatment, the only significant difference noted between the groups was footprint bisector, which was favoured with treatment using an orthosis.
