105 patients with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture undergoing ACL reconstruction were randomized to receive either intravenous tranexamic acid or a placebo prior to surgery. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the addition of a TXA injection to the standard use of drain clamping provides additional benefits over the use of drain clamping alone in terms of clinical outcomes evaluated over a 4 week follow-up period. The results of this study found the additional administration of TXA to significant improve subjective hemarthrosis assessment, VAS pain scores, Lysholm scores, the need for aspiration and the volume of blood drained compared to the use of drain clamping alone.
