ARTHROPLASTY
Curve-on-curve technique does not improve tibial coverage in total knee arthroplasty in comparison to tibial tuberosity technique with use of anatomical implants: randomized controlled trial.
Vol. 13 Iss. 12 | June 2025 | Number 8 Arch Orthop Trauma Surg . 2023 Sep;143(9):5901-5907.
Study Summary

Eighty-eight patients with primary knee osteoarthritis were randomized to receive total knee arthroplasty using the PERSONA PS anatomic implant via either the curve-on-curve technique (n=46) or the tibial tuberosity technique (n=42). The primary outcome of interest was tibial rotation angle. Secondary outcomes included tibial coverage, range of motion, maximum flexion, and extension. Outcomes were assessed up to 12 months post-operatively. Overall, the results of the study revealed that the curve-on-curve group had significantly greater external tibial rotation, but there were no significant differences in tibial coverage or range of motion. The findings suggest that while the two techniques differ in rotational alignment, they yield similar outcomes in tibial coverage and functional range of motion.
