Curcuminoid treatment for knee osteoarthritis: a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial

53 patients with mild-to-severe osteoarthritis of the knee were randomly assigned to receive curcuminoid supplementation or placebo for 6 weeks. This pilot study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of curcuminoids in patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis using the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index, the visual analogue scale for pain, Lequesne’s pain functional index, naproxen usage, and the incidence of adverse events. The findings revealed significant reduction in pain and NSAID use in patients who received curcuminoid supplementation compared with patients who received placebo after the 6-week intervention period.
