Cross-linked polyethylene head: Reduced wear irrespective of femoral head .
Clinical results of the wear performance of cross-linked polyethylene in total hip arthroplasty: Prospective randomized trial
J Arthroplasty. 2009 Dec;24(8):1216-20. Epub 2009 Aug 12.94 patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA) were randomized to one of four groups. These groups consisted of one group receiving non cross-linked polyethaline (CLPE) liners and three groups receiving CLPE liners from different companies. This trial assessed the efficacy of the use of CLPE in THA, while comparing their results to traditional polyethaline (PE) liners. The results from this study indicated that the wear rates of all CLPE liners tested were significantly lower than that of traditional PE liners. There were no significant differences observed between the CLPE groups.
