A Randomized, Prospective, Double-Blind Study to Investigate the Effectiveness of Adding DepoMedrol to a Local Anesthetic Injection in Postmeniscectomy Patients With Osteoarthritis of the Knee
Am J Sports Med. 2009 Jun;37(6):1077-82. Epub 2009 Mar 11.59 patients with knee osteoarthritis, undergoing a meniscectomy procedure, were randomized to receive postoperative treatment with either an injection of corticosteroids and lidocaine or saline and lidocaine. Corticosteroid injection is a common treatment for OA. This study assessed the effects of this treatment on pain and function outcomes following meniscectomy. The results of this trial indicated that corticosteroid treatment provided short term functional improvement and pain relief, but these effects diminished with longer term follow ups (>6 months).
