Home Training, Local Corticosteroid Injection, or Radial Shock Wave Therapy for Greater Trochanter Pain Syndrome
Am J Sports Med. 2009 Oct;37(10):1981-90. Epub 2009 May 13.229 patients who suffered from greater trochanter pain syndrome were randomized to one of three groups. The first group receiving corticosteroid injection at the site of pain, a second group receiving shock wave therapy, and finally a third group prescribed exercise therapy. The study aimed to compare and evaluated all three treatment options in a long term randomized trial. The results of this study indicated that corticosteroid injection provided the best recovery results at one month follow-up. However, this result was consistent in the longer term follow ups with shock wave and exercise therapy providing better results at 4 and 15 month follow-ups.
