The systematic review included 26 studies (randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, and case series), 15 of which were used for meta-analysis, the purpose of which to determine the correlation between MRI findings and clinical outcome following cartilage repair surgery. The procedures included were autologous chondrocyte implantation, osteochondral autograft transfer system, and microfracture. The findings suggested that correlation does exist between radiographic and clinical outcome, although it appears that the strength of the correlation for a particular MRI classification appears to vary depending on the procedure.
