Core Stability Training After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction .
Does core stability training improve hopping performance and kinetic asymmetries during single-leg landing in anterior cruciate ligament reconstructed patients?
Res Sports Med . 2024 Mar-Apr;32(2):268-278.Twenty-four male professional athletes who had undergone ACL reconstruction surgery were randomized into an exercise group (n=12) and a control group (n=12). The exercise group underwent an 8-week core stability exercise program, while the control group did not. The primary outcome was the limb symmetry index (LSI) in single-leg hop for distance (SLH) and triple hop (TRH) tests. Secondary outcomes included measurements of multidirectional ground reaction forces (GRFs). Outcomes were assessed pre- and post-intervention. Overall, the results revealed that the exercise group showed significant improvements in SLH and TRH distances, indicating enhanced symmetry in hop performance. The study suggests that core stability training can reduce asymmetries in functional performance among post-ACLR athletes, potentially aiding in a safer return to sport.
