Continuous Passive Motion + Physical Therapy For Knee Arthroplasty: A Meta-Analysis .
Efficacy and safety of continuous passive motion and physical therapy in recovery from knee arthroplasty: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
J Orthop Surg Res . 2024 Jan 13;19(1):68.Six randomized controlled trials (557 patients) comparing continuous passive motion (CPM) plus physical therapy (PT) against physical therapy alone were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. Outcomes of interest included range of motion in passive knee flexion and extension, length of stay, pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC). VAS pain scores were significantly lower in the PT group compared to CPM+PT. All other outcomes were similar between the two groups. The addition of CPM did not show superior benefits to PT in patients undergoing knee arthroplasty.
