The efficacy of conservative treatment of osteoporotic compression fractures on acute pain relief: a systematic review with meta-analysis
Eur Spine J. 2015 Apr;24(4):702-14.5 randomized control trials were included in this systematic review/meta-analysis evaluating conservative treatment options for vertebral compression factors (VCF) caused by minimal trauma. These studies compared the effects of conservative treatments, spanning from bracing to pharmaceutical interventions, on pain and disability in the immediate, short, and long term, using a variety of outcome reporting methods. No significant effects were observed for pain treatment, but spinal orthoses were found to provide the greatest disability reduction when compared to no treatment. All results were to be interpreted with caution due to the low methodological quality of the included studies.
