Accuracy of acetabular cup placement in computer-assisted, minimally-invasive THR in a lateral decubitus position.
International Orthopaedics Volume 35, Number 6, 809-815.64 patients undergoing total hip replacement were randomized to receive either an image-free computer navigation system or a free hand technique for the purposes of acetabular cup placement. Postoperative CT scans were used to determine the positioning of the cup. The results of the study indicated that the patients who received the image-free computer system treatment had less variability and greater accuracy in regards to the cup position.
