Effects of comprehensive geriatric care on depressive symptoms, emergency department visits, re-hospitalization and discharge to the same residence in older persons receiving hip-fracture surgery: A meta-analysis
Int J Nurs Pract. 2022 Dec;28(6):e13099.Six randomized controlled trials with 1291 total patients were included in this meta-analysis assessing the effectiveness of comprehensive geriatric care (CGC) programs. Pooled outcomes of interest included depression symptoms, emergency department visits, re-hospitalization, and discharge to the same residence. The results of this study found that CGC significantly reduced depression symptoms up to 12 months follow-up, as well as the odds of emergency department visits within 3 months of treatment. No differences in re-hospitalization and discharge to the same residence were observed.
