Compliance and persistence to oral bisphosphonate therapy following initiation within a secondary fracture prevention program: a randomised controlled trial of specialist vs. non-specialist management
Osteoporos Int. 2014 Apr;25(4):1345-55. doi: 10.1007/s00198-013-2610-4. Epub 2014 Jan 21.102 patients with incident osteoporotic fractures were initiated on oral bisphosphonate therapy within a secondary fracture prevention program with subsequent management by either a specialist (Group A) or a primary care physician (Group B). Compliance and persistence to oral bisphosphonate therapy was determined over 2 years. Compliance and persistence were high, and did not significantly differ between groups. Thus treatment initiation in a secondary fracture prevention program is important to ensure optimal. compliance and persistence as opposed to type of follow-up routine.
