18 randomized controlled trials, comparing outcomes of single-level cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) to anterior cervical disc fusion (ACDF) in symptomatic cervical disc disease were selected for inclusion. The purpose of the study was to determine the efficacy of CDA compared to ACDF. The results of the meta-analysis displayed significant benefits in terms of arm and neck pain, patient satisfaction, range of motion of the adjacent level and multiple clinical scores of CDA compared to ACDF over a maximum of 4 years after surgery.
