Comparison of 2 Peripheral Nerve Blocks Techniques for Functional Recovery and Postoperative Pain Management After Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Prospective, Double-Blinded, Randomized Trial
Med Sci Monit . 2021 Oct 11;27:e932848.Eighty patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty were randomized to receive a combined distal femoral triangle (FT) and distal adductor canal block (ACB) (n=40) or femoral nerve block (FNB) (n=40). The outcomes of interest were postoperative motor function as measured by the Bromage scale, postoperative pain, satisfaction and opioid consumption. The FT+ACB group demonstrated significantly better motor function at 3 and 6h postoperatively compared to the FNB group. The FNB group had higher opioid consumption at 24h postoperatively. No differences in pain or satisfaction were found at any time point.
