Changes in bone mineral density of the proximal tibia after uncemented total knee arthroplasty. A prospective randomized study

Int Orthop. 2016 Feb;40(2):285-94.

61 osteoarthritic patients scheduled for total knee arthroplasty were randomized to receive either a standard porous plasma-sprayed (PPS) coated implant or Regenerex (a novel titanium construct) implant as an ingrowth surface for the cementless tibial components used during surgery. The purpose of this study was to determine if either construct was associated with significantly improved knee and function scores and superior prevention of loss in bone mineral density (BMD) when measured up to 24 months post-surgery. Results demonstrated that all clinical measures were comparable between study groups and that decrease/net increase in specific regions of interest was similar between groups throughout the study duration.
