A comparison of the fascia iliaca block to the lumbar plexus block in providing analgesia following arthroscopic hip surgery: A randomized controlled clinical trial

48 patients scheduled for arthroscopic hip surgery were randomized to postoperative analgesia featuring either a fascia iliaca block or lumbar plexus block. Patients were assessed for pain on a numeric rating scale at 15 minutes after administration, as well as opioid consumption within the postanaesthesia care unit, postoperative days 0 (ie. remainder of day of surgery) and 1. NRS pain scores did not significantly differ between the FIB group and the LPB, either in absolute value at 15 minutes after administration or in reduction from baseline. Opioid consumption within the PACU was significantly greater in the FIB group compared to the LPB group, though did not significantly differ between groups on POD 0-1.
