Comparison Between Corticosteroid Injection Into Coracohumeral Ligament and Inferior Glenohumeral Capsule and Corticosteroid Injection Into Posterior Glenohumeral Recess in Adhesive Capsulitis: A Prospective Randomized Trial

One hundred and twenty patients with adhesive capsulitis were randomized to receive up to 3 weekly corticosteroid injections into the coracohumeral ligament and inferior glenohumeral capsule (CHL + IGHC; n=60) or via the posterior glenohumeral recess (PGHR; n=60). The outcomes of interest included pain intensity on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and passive shoulder range of motion in abduction; external rotation; and internal rotation, assessed 2 and 4 months after the first injection. Results showed improvements in both groups over time, however, the improvement in pain scores and all range of motion outcomes were significantly better in the CHL+IGHC group vs. the PGHR group.
