Traction methods in the retrograde intramedullary nailing of femur shaft fractures: the double reverse traction repositor or manual traction

Seventy-seven patients (72 completed follow up) with femoral shaft fractures were randomized to undergo a retrograde intramedullary nailing procedure using a double reverse traction repositor or manual traction. The outcomes of interest included functional outcomes, surgical data, and complication rate. Outcomes were assessed up to 12 months post-operation. Results revealed no significant differences between the two methods in clinical outcomes or the rate of complications. The double reverse traction repositor required significantly less intra-operative fluoroscopy and surgical assistants than manual traction.
