One hundred six patients with trigger digit were randomized to receive corticosteroid injection either dorsal to the tendons at the proximal phalanx (PP group, n=53) or anterior to the tendons at the A1 pulley (A1 group, n=53). The primary outcome was the number of days to total relief of pain, stiffness, and triggering, measured by daily visual analogue scales over 6 weeks. Secondary outcomes included injection-related pain, anesthesia duration, QuickDASH and HQ-8 scores, and need for further treatment. Overall, the results of the study revealed no significant differences between groups in time to symptom relief, though there was a nonsignificant trend favoring faster pain relief in the PP group. The study concludes that both injection techniques provide similar outcomes, supporting the use of either method for symptom resolution in trigger digit.
