The Forced Active Buckling Sign: A New Clinical Test for the Diagnosis of ACL Insufficiency
J Knee Surg. 2020 Jan;33(1):42-47.One hundred patients, 50 with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) ruptures and 50 with meniscal lesions, received diagnostic testing with the novel Forced Action Buckling (FAB) test, the Lachman's test and the pivot shift test for the detection of ACL insufficiency. Patients received all three of the tests, however the test which was performed first was decided through randomization. Results of the study found the FAB test to result in the most favourable test sensitivity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, positive likelihood ratio and negative likelihood ratio compared to the Lachman's and pivot shift tests. The most favourable test for specificity was the pivot shift test, closely followed by the FAB test.
