Comparative efficacy of advanced and traditional wound dressings in post-operative orthopaedic care for hip and knee surgeries: A randomized controlled trial.

Three hundred and fourteen patients with closed fractures around the hip and knee undergoing internal fixation were randomized to receive Aquacel Ag® (n=78), Opsite® Post-Op (n=79), Mepilex Border Post-Op® (n=79), or traditional dressings (n=78). The primary outcomes of interest were pain levels during dressing changes, exudate management, patient comfort, nurses' ease of dressing application and removal, and surgical site complications. Outcomes were assessed on postoperative days 3, 7, and 14. Overall, the study revealed that Mepilex Border Post-Op® dressings resulted in significantly lower pain scores, improved exudate control, enhanced comfort, and fewer surgical site complications compared to traditional dressings. These findings suggest that Mepilex Border Post-Op® dressings may offer superior wound care benefits in postoperative orthopedic settings.
