The comparative effectiveness of combined hydrodilatation/corticosteroid procedure with two different quantities for adhesive capsulitis.

Eighty-four patients with adhesive capsulitis were randomized to receive either 20 mL hydrodilatation (n=42) or 10 mL hydrodilatation (n=42). The primary outcome of interest was the visual analog scale (VAS) for pain. Secondary outcomes included the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) scores and the range of motion (ROM) of the shoulder. Outcomes were assessed at baseline, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks. Overall, the results of the study revealed significant improvements in pain, SPADI scores, and ROM in both groups, with no significant differences between the groups except for a notable improvement in flexion and external rotation in the 20 mL group from 6 to 12 weeks. The findings suggest that while both hydrodilatation volumes are effective, the higher volume may offer additional benefits in specific shoulder movements.
