Fixation stability of opening- versus closing-wedge high tibial osteotomy: a randomised clinical trial using radiostereometry

Forty-two patients with osteoarthritis of the medial compartment of the knee were randomized to receive one of two procedural techniques for valgus high tibial osteotomy (HTO). The first group underwent a medial opening-wedge (OW) technique, while the second group underwent a lateral closing-wedge (CW) technique. The primary outcomes were initial stability, pain, and function. No significant differences were observed, and both groups experienced comparable improvements in pain and function compared to baseline.
