The total costs of a displaced femoral neck fracture: comparison of internal fixation and total hip replacement: A randomised study of 146 hips
Int Orthop. 2006 Feb;30(1):1-6. Epub 2005 Dec 23143 patients (146 hips: 56 from mentally-impaired patients and 90 from lucid patients) with a displaced femoral neck fracture of the hip were randomised to undergo either an internal fixation procedure or a total hip replacement (THR) procedure. The primary outcome was the socio-economic consequences of these two different treatment methods. The results indicated almost identical total costs between the internal fixation and total hip replacement groups.
