Anterior Knee Pain After Intramedullary Nailing of Fractures of the Tibial Shaft: An Eight-Year Follow-Up of a Prospective, Randomized Study Comparing Two Different Nail-Insertion Techniques
J Trauma. 2008 Jun;64(6):1511-6.50 patients (>15 yr old) with a tibial shaft fracture, requiring intramedullary nailing, were randomized to be treated with either paratendinous or transtendinous approach. At 8 year follow-up, there were no differences in the anterior knee pain and functional performance between the paratendinous and transtendinous nailing techniques.
