The Effectiveness of Combined Exercise and Self-Determination Theory Programmes on Chronic Low Back Pain: A Systematic Review and Metanalysis.
Healthcare (Basel) . 2024 Feb 1;12(3):382.Five randomized controlled trials including 560 patients with chronic low back pain were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing combined exercise and self-determination theory (SDT) programs vs. standard care or exercise alone. Pooled outcomes of interest included disability, quality of life, pain intensity, adherence to exercise, and psychological well-being. The pooled results showed significant improvements in disability and quality of life in favor of the intervention group. The main findings suggest that integrating SDT with exercise programs significantly reduces disability and enhances the quality of life for patients with chronic low back pain.
