The combined effect of vitamin K and calcium on bone mineral density in humans: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

A total of 1346 patients from 10 randomized controlled trials were included in this meta-analysis comparing combined Vitamin K and calcium supplementation vs. control for the improvement of bone mineral density (BMD). Outcomes of interest included lumbar spine BMD, femoral BMD, femoral neck BMD, and levels of undercarboxylated osteocalcin. Pooled results revealed significantly higher lumbar spine BMD in the combination group compared to the control group. Moreover, pooled levels of undercarboxylated osteocalcin were significantly lower in the combination group.
