Immersive Virtual Reality (iVR) Improves Procedural Duration, Task Completion, and Accuracy in Surgical Trainees: A Systematic Review
COA_2021_10Seventeen studies were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing immersive virtual reality (VR) training to a control for the acquisition of surgical skills in medical trainees. Pooled outcomes of interest included the time to procedural completion. Additional outcomes of interest included accuracy of pedicle screw placement and task completion. Results revealed significantly short pooled time to procedural completion in the immersive VR group compared to control (p<0.0001). In the systematic review, 1 study reported greater task completion and 2 studies reported greater accuracy of pedicle screw placement in favour of the immersive VR group.
