2017 COA Annual Meeting: Comparison of subscapularis tenotomy to subscapularis peel in shoulder arthroplasty: a prospective, randomized, controlled trial

97 patients scheduled for total shoulder arthroplasty were randomized to the intraoperative management of the subscapularis tendon through either a subscapularis peel technique or subscapularis tenotomy technique. Patients were assessed over a 12-month follow-up for subscapularis strength and patient-reported functional outcome measures. Results demonstrated a significant improvement in both groups for all outcomes, as well as no significant differences between groups for any outcome at 12 months.
