COA: No difference between TLSO and no orthosis for thoracolumbar burst fractures .
No Orthosis is Equivalent to TLSO for the Treatment of Thoracolumbar Burst Fractures Without Neurologic Injury: Results from a Multi-Centred RCT
96 patients with AO-A3 burst fractures between T11 and L3 were randomized to receive the TLSO brace or no orthosis. At 3 months, there was no difference between the two groups for the Roland Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ) score. Over 104 weeks, the two groups also did not differ with respect to pain, function, quality of life, satisfaction, sagittal alignment, duration of hospital stay, and complications. Further analyses indicated that significant improvement in the RMDQ occurred at 6 weeks for both groups and at 3 months for the control group, but there were no more improvements thereafter.
