2019 COA/ICORS Annual Meeting: Combined Intra-articular and Intravenous Tranexamic Acid Administration Associated with Improved Early Rehabilitation Outcomes after Total Knee Arthroplasty : A Randomised Controlled Trial

179 patients scheduled for total knee arthroplasty were randomized to one of three tranexamic acid (TXA) administration groups: one group received intraarticular TXA combined with pre- and postoperative intravenous (IV) TXA; one group received intraarticular TXA combined with just preoperative IV TXA; and one group received intraarticular TXA alone. Significant differences between groups in favour of the group which was administered intraarticular TXA was observed in hemoglobin drop after 2 days, range of knee extension at 6 months, and Knee Society Score at 6 months.
