2019 COA/ICORS Annual Meeting: Deltopectoral vs Deltoid Split Approach for Proximal Humerus Fracture Fixation With Locking Plate: A Prospective Randomized Study (HURA Study)

83 patients with isolated proximal humerus fractures (PHF) were randomized to receive a PHF fixation with a locking plate, performed with either a deltopectoral (DP) approach or a deltoid split (DS) approach. Outcomes of interest included SF-12 quality of life questionnaire, the Quick Disability of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (QuickDASH) score, Constant-Murley score, complications and range of motion. Follow up was performed up to 24 months post-operation. Results revealed significantly favourable QuickDASH, SF-12, and Constant-Murley in the DP approach group compared to the DS approach group. Range of motion was in favour of the DS approach group. The number of complications was higher in the DS approach group compared to the DP approach group.
