Suture Fixation vs. Tendonous Reconstruction in CMC Arthroplasty: Double-Blind RCT

60 patients with thumb carpometacarpal (CMC) arthritis were randomized to undergo trapeziectomy, followed by either suture fixation, or ligament reconstruction with tendon interposition (control), to compare postoperative outcomes. Results indicated similar Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire scores, analog pain scores, strength, and range of motion between groups up to 6 months postoperatively. Operative time was shorter with suture fixation.
