Displaced Midshaft Clavicle Fractures: A Comparison of Pin Versus Plate Fixation
29 patients, >18 years of age, undergoing osteosynthesis for shortened, displaced, midshaft clavicle fractures, were randomly assigned to either pin or plate fixation to compare efficacy between the two methods. Over 12 months, both groups demonstrated improvements in activities of daily living (ADL), American Shoulder and Elbow Society score (ASES), Physical Composite Score (PCS), Mental Composite Score (MCS), and EQ5, but that no difference was apparent between groups regarding these outcomes. Both methods of fixation resulted in complete union by final follow-up for all 29 patients.
