2014 Joint COA/AOA Meeting: A Prospective Comparative Study of Orthobiological PRP Platelet Rich Plasma Intra Lesional Injectional Therapy and Steroid Injection in Treatment of Achilles Tendonitis and Intractable Plantar Fasciitis: A Clinical Follow-up Study for Two Years

200 patients with inflammatory soft tissue tendonitis, Achilles tendonitis, or plantar fasciitis were randomized to evaluate the efficacy of the Orthobiologics Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) intralesional injection as compared to that of steroid injections. Patients were monitored over 2 years based on the Roles-Maudsley score (RM Score), a visual analog scale, and the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) score. While results at 12 and 24 months demonstrated significant improvement within both groups, improvements in the PRP group were significantly greater than that observed with steroid at both time points.
