Fixation Alternatives for Low-Energy Femoral Neck Fractures: A Meta-Analysis
Eight randomized controlled trials were included in this meta-analysis which compared incidences of complications following fixation of a low-energy femoral neck fracture between a sliding hip screw and multiple cannulated cancellous screws. Analyses on development of avascular necrosis, nonunion, limb shortnening, and reoperation demonstrated no significant differences between SHS and multiple cannulated cancellous screw groups. When the analysis on reoperation was limited to displaced fractures, risk of reoperation was significantly lower with SHS versus multiple cannulated cancellous screws.
