Nine studies - randomized controlled trials or cohort studies - were included in this meta-analysis which compared rates of wound complications between the sinus tarsi approach and the standard, lateral extensile approach. The pooled result demonstrated a significantly lower incidence of wound complications following fixation through the sinus tarsi approach compared to the lateral extensile approach.
