2018 COA Annual Meeting: Outcomes of Early vs. Late Post-Operative Weightbearing in Patients Undergoing Surgical Fixation of Ankle Fractures: A Systematic review and Meta Analysis

OE Journal. 2018;6(12):3Ten studies were included in this meta-analysis which compared functional outcome, complication rate, and revision rate after ankle fracture fixation between early weightbearing (within 2 weeks of surgery) and late weightbearing (4-6 weeks after surgery). Function significantly favoured EWB groups at 6 weeks, while no significant difference was observed between EWB and LWB groups when function was pooled at 1 year postoperatively. Incidences of complications and revision did not significantly differ between EWB and LWB groups.
